The good folks organising this Sunday's rally to protest CERA's lack of action on the orange and white zones were nice enough to inform the City Council that they planned to meet in the botanic gardens.
According to Council botanical services operations team manager Jeremy Hawker, who appears to refer to the City Council 'management plan' when deciding such matters, a peaceful rally is "probably not the right sort of activity for the Botanic Gardens."
Giant group hugs and footy events that aim to draw thousands, no problem. But at the faintest hint of anything that just might seem vaguely political the custodians of our public spaces snap into full-on risk aversion mode.
