"There Was a Land of Cavaliers and Cotton Fields Called the Old South..."

While there's a passing resemblance to Gone With the Wind's Tara, this quake-damaged mansion tucked away in a leafy oasis in Christchurch's Dallington was built barely twelve years ago. Once reputed to be the city's most expensive home, it's now being stripped of its fixtures before vanishing forever.

Supposedly structurally damaged beyond repair, the entire building has a pronounced tilt.

A prime location near a picturesque stream has been the building's undoing. Like so many sites near the city's numerous waterways it's proved to be hopelessly unstable during a major shake.
