Images From the Earthquake Anniversary Service

The main photo essay may be seen at Public Address's Capture photoblog post EQNZ Remembrance.
Here are further pics of various dignitaries and others as seen at the event:
Prime Minister John Key being suitably sombre.

Anglican Bishop Victoria Matthews.

Labour MPs Lianne Dalziel, Megan Woods, Clayton Cosgrove, Labour leader David Shearer displaying his lovely smile, plus United Future's Peter Dunne shows a bit of his famous coiffure.

Civic Bling - Tony's Pony

"I have a very good communicator in the Mayor and I don't want to usurp his role."

The Turning Point Has Arrived

The great work by the campaigners against Council CEO Tony Marryatt's payrise
delivers a stunning result as the Reverend Mike Coleman addresses a crowd estimated by police at around 4000 on the site of the former St Elmos Courts next to the City Council offices.

They're concerned Cantabrians . . .

. . . and they've had enough!
(And not just because the soundman had been warming them up with Twisted Sister).

Telling it like it is: The C-words.

Transparency's what Mayor Bob promised, opacity's what we got.

Signs of the public mood.

Orange zone residents advocate Darla Hutt.

Like post-quake housing, seating is scarce. Affordable housing advocate Hugh Pavletich appears to have found a metaphor for Christchurch's property shortage.

A guest speaker addresses the crowd as protest organiser Peter Lynch looks on.

An obliging primate fills in for missing Council CEO Tony Marryatt.

The Wizard of Christchurch makes a welcome appearance.

They work for us: City Council staff peer from the battlements.

Media scrutiny: A handy vantage point from right next door.

Hugh Pavletich addresses the crowd on the Council's failure to deal with the housing crisis in post-quake Christchurch.

Kelvin Hampton describes the life-threatening earthquake rescue experiences
that he and his firefighter colleagues have experienced.

Council CEO Tony Marryatt's salary increase is more than firefighters like Kelvin would earn in a year.

The Wizard  promises to return to his once and future domain in the Square.

Where's Aaron?
A selection of Councillors who voted against CEO Marryatt's obscene salary increase mingle with the crowd, while the hapless Mayor Parker stooge Aaron Keown (in orange 'Parker' vest) lurks in the background.

From left to right, Councillors Yani Johanson (in red shirt), Tim Carter, Helen Broughton, and Jimmy Chen.

The audience endorse the list of demands contained in Peter Lynch's letter.

Marryatt Names His Price

Romancing the Drone.
After weeks of high-handed dismissal in the face of mounting criticism, Mayor Parker and his cronies have abruptly imploded. In a breathtakingly inept donning of sackcloth and ashes corporate style, they've announced an expensive round of Dear Leader-style PR events, where the terminally odious Council CEO Tony Marryatt gets " out and about in the community in order to listen, learn and act on what people are thinking and feeling about their Council.".

Local author, PR flack and occasional hagiographer Felicity Price will mastermind this delicate operation. While others have likened Ms Price's task to polishing excrement, we're confident that the $80,000 of ratepayer funds allocated will be sufficient to remove any trace of political ordure from her sullied conscience.

The Marryatt Monument - Never Again

City Council CEO Tony Marryatt returns from holiday to quake-rattled Christchurch and is forced by his desperate minders to face the media in order to defend his obscene salary increase. It's an experience he handles with the panache of a cockroach exposed to sunlight.
There's no need to prolong the pain, Tony. Sling your hook before February 1st and we'll even put up a statue.

Sign the petition - Tony Marryatt Should Refuse His 14.4% Payrise.
